Even if you don’t own a dog, you can still be a dog-lover. If you’re can’t get enough of man’s best friend, you’ll want to know all about the 2019 National Dog Show at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center. It’s happening November 16 and November 17, 2019. Usually taking place around Thanksgiving, this dog show is a favorite and is now a tradition dating back to 1879!
The Saturday, November 16 show is the “National Dog Show Presented by Purina” and will be televised on NBC nationally and on local NBC 10 on Thanksgiving Day, to add to the tradition. On Sunday, November 17, there will be a full schedule of canine competitions, athletic dog exhibitions, and fun activities for the whole family.
With days filled with events, competitions, and demonstrations, The Kennel Club of Philadelphia’s National Dog Show will feature 2000 dogs; they span 200 varieties of breeds. Also featured will be:
- Therapy dog showcase
- Performances
- Agility courses
How do they Categorize the Dogs that Will be There?
Some of the divisions include:
- Best in Show – all group winners
- Herding Group
- Hound Group
- Non-Sporting Group
- Sporting Group
- Terrier Group
- Toy Group
- Working group
You’ll see all your favorite dogs, including the Belgian Sheepdog, Bearded Collie, Bichon Frise, and Boston Terrier, to name just a few.
Event Types
Three types of events comprise this show:
- Public – open to everyone
- Private – invitation only
- Trade shows – geared towards members of a special industry

Tickets can be purchased at the door, as well as the website. Prices are the following:
- $16 – adults
- $7 – children 4-12
- Free admission for children three and under
